The Rest of the Day
After the appointment, which went well, we had nothing to do until receiving the referral documents on Tuesday afternoon. So we walked. Just up from our flat is St Michael’s cathedral just recently restored. It is on the top of a ridge. Walking along the ridge, on a street I can’t spell or pronounce, is St Sophia’s Cathedral. Walking further along the ridge is the Golden Gate. From the back it looks like wooden logs stacked to make a fort. We did not see the front because we did not know what it was until we bought a guidebook! Then we went to a mall, a 5 story tall department store, where I paid to use the toilet on the top floor. I mention this only because there was no toilet just a hole in the floor, I became a native!! However toilet paper, sink and soap were provided – Is this too much info?!!
You may not know but I am about to tell you that there are 7 major hills around Kiev and each have a cathedral. It is amazing to walk through areas that are over 1500, yes, 1500 years old!
Today, Tuesday, we are walking Andriivsky Uzviz, a street that descends from St Andrew's cathedral to the Dneiper River and around to Independence Square. The SDA building is next to St Andrew's cathedral. These 2 pictures are this cathedral and the small side door that you enter to visit the SDA, a very important office, at least for us!
